Waiting on the Bus In his audio tapes, Dr. Bernie Siegel tells a story of a monk waiting on a bus. He explains the monk is in tune with universe and his mind is at peace. He is filled with love and joy. He quietly waits on the bus without being nervous or concerned about all the possibilities out of his control. For example: Will the bus be on time?
None of these things concern the monk. He waits on the bus in peace. All of us with a GBM are waiting on the bus and will be for the rest of our lives. Every so often we get an MRI that tells our docs if there is new tumor growth. At first the MRIs are every two months, then every four months, then every six months and, if we hang in there, the cycle is every year. Each of us need a method for waiting on the bus. I try to be like the monk, but it’s hard sometimes. Recently, I have found placing the state of the bus in the hands of Jesus Christ seems to work well for me. |
