Example A man who had just had back surgery occupied the area on my right in ICU. Whenever his nurse would ask him a question he replied very politely and always said “Thank You”. He was in a lot of pain and would ask for more pain medicine frequently. Regardless of the pain and discomfort he was in, he always managed to be polite and always say “Thank You”, never complaining. I thought about how remarkable he was. As I was pondering his attitude and courage, the word example jumped into my mind. He was my example. Later, a woman occupied the area on my left in ICU. She was constantly complaining. She was constantly criticizing the nurse for being too slow and not helping her properly. I found myself being extremely polite to my nurse; always saying thank you. Perhaps now I was an example. |
