My New Prayer for myself and pathology reports

My nightly prayer for myself goes like this: "Jesus take my body and my soul and use them as you wish. God's Will be done. Now I add this line: "Jesus, if you choose to do so, heal me and put me to work for you."

Audrey and I met a man in the men's restroom at the hospital a few days ago (Audrey has to take me into the men's restroom; she always knocks first!). The man had been told his brother has two weeks to live. I told him that was ridiculous and pointed him at my recovery web site. I elaborated that no one can predict from a pathology report when someone will die. He looked like a little hope had slipped in as he walked off. I don't think he thought his brother was not terminal, I just think he thought he may have more than two weeks.

Bernie Siegel has a standing bet with any doctor. If the doctor can predict from a pathology report within 6 months of a person’s death, Bernie will give them his year’s salary, otherwise they owe Bernie their year’s salary. Bernie says all docs confronted with the bet so far remark, “I can't predict when someone will die from a pathology report”, to which Bernie remarks, “Well, why did you tell the patient how long they have to live.”
