Michael

One of my therapists is a nice, friendly guy named Michael. Michael enjoys team roping as a hobby. Michael is strong. He is a man’s man. He is usually the guy that stretches me out from time to time. One Friday, I was placed in the rehab pool where Michael, two assistant angels, Debra and Jessica, along with my regular OT angel, Julie, began stretching my left shoulder. Man, it hurt. It hurt so bad I got weak and flush. Everyone agreed we should stop. They got me out of the pool, let me lay down, and took my blood pressure / temperature. I was fine, but the rest of my session was cancelled.

The very next Friday I was scheduled to go back into the pool with Michael. Before I was to leave home for rehab I laid down, closed my eyes and prayed. I envisioned Michael as a monster, me against him. Suddenly I set straight up and realized all my PT/OT friends were angels. Therefore Michael was an angel too, not a monster. Next, Christ told me Michael was like an archangel. Michael is tough and just like an archangel he fights evil. Now I understood, it was not about me against Michael, it was about Michael and I against the cancer and it’s effects on my shoulder. My entire attitude changed.

At rehab Julie waited to ultrasound my shoulder. Then it was off to the pool where Michael and crew waited. The stretching began and, man, it hurt. After what seemed an agonizing eternity, something wonderful happen. My shoulder popped loudly. Julie and Michael were delighted. Michael said that’s what he had been trying to get for two weeks. More stretching continued, it hurt but not as bad as before. During this stretching session, Michael kissed me on the top of my head. I felt loved and rewarded.

I explained to Michael he was an archangel. He looked pleased and told me his mother had named him Michael after Michael, the archangel in the bible.

After I got out of the pool I was weak, too weak to dress myself, but I felt good. Another angel named Peggy came to the pool and helped me dress.

That night my shoulder did not hurt for the first time in months. I was blessed yet again.

Now, I look forward to next Friday in the pool where Michael and my other angels will resume the fight.
